Change your name

You can apply to change your name if you are 18 years or older and you are Victorian born, or born overseas and have been residing in Victoria for at least 12 months before your application.

If you were born interstate, you must apply to the Registry in the State or Territory of your birth.

Change a child's name

You can apply to change your child's name if they are under 18 years of age and are Victorian born, or born overseas and have been residing in Victoria for at least12 months before your application.

If you child was born interstate, you must apply to the Registry in the State or Territory of your child's birth.
 

Deed Poll

Deed Polls were used up to October 1986 to change a person's name. You can apply to BDM for a copy of your existing Victorian Deed Poll certificate.
