You need a Service Victoria account to access our online services.
This makes it easier for you to log in and prove your identity.
If you don’t have a Service Victoria account, we’ll ask you to create one. You can use your Service Victoria account across many Victorian Government services.
If you had a BDM account, you can link it to your Service Victoria account. Linking lets you see your current and past applications.
Option 1: Use your existing Service Victoria account
You can use your existing Service Victoria account if you have one.
You’ll be prompted to log into your Service Victoria account when you start an application with us.

Option 2: Create a Service Victoria account, if you don’t have one
If you don’t you have a Service Victoria account, you’ll be prompted to create one when you either:
- start a new application with us
- resume an existing application.
When you log in, you’ll be prompted to create or log into a Service Victoria account. You’ll then have the option to link your BDM account to your Service Victoria account.
Linking your BDM and Service Victoria accounts
You can link your previous BDM account to your Service Victoria account. Linking lets you access any applications you’ve started but not finished.
To link your accounts:
- In the menu, choose Log in to 'My items'
- You’ll be prompted to either:
- log into your existing Service Victoria account, if you have one,
- create a Service Victoria account.
- We’ll then give you the option to link your accounts.
From now on, log in using your Service Victoria account.
If you choose not to link accounts, you can’t access your current or past applications with Births Deaths and Marriages. If you had any unfinished applications, you’ll need to start them again.
Logging in to upload documents
- Log in to My Items
- Locate your application
- Choose the ‘Upload supporting documents’ button
- Upload certified copies of your documents

I need to reset my password
You can reset your Births, Deaths and Marriages password(opens in a new window).
Information technology (IT) issues
Our IT helpdesk can help with logging in or password resets. Email bdm.ict.servicedesk@dgs.vic.gov.au.
The IT team can't help with turnaround times or applying for a certificate.
