Before you can get a recognised details certificate, you need to change your recorded sex in Victoria. See Change a record of sex.
When ordering a certificate you will need to prove your identity.
What we need from you
We'll ask you for the following information during the application process:
1. Details of the person on the certificate
As a minimum, you'll be asked for:
- Given name
- Family name
- Date of birth
- Place of birth.
2. Proof of identity
You can prove your identity by uploading documents or by post.
Acceptable documents
The easiest way to prove your identity is with your driver licence (if it confirms your residential address) and your passport.
There are other ways to prove your identity.
If you send us documents, they must be certified copies.
Don’t send original identity documents by mail
Don’t send uncertified copies – we can’t accept them.

Documents must be current (not expired). If you can’t provide current photo identification, please contact us.
3. Proof that you're eligible to get the certificate
If you're applying for your own certificate, you only need to prove your identity.
If you're applying for someone else's certificate, you also need to prove that you're authorised to do so. See Get someone else's recognised details certificate.
